pastoral care

CCBC is a community of Christians who believe in the importance of pastoral care to practically show the love of Jesus to one another and encourage each other as disciples. Essentially, we believe pastoral care is something every believer is part of and involved in because we all belong to the family of Christ; from the pastors and leadership team to every member and friend of the church. Often, expressions of care, support and love are demonstrated through the web of friendships and relationships within the church.

We also have more structured ways of providing pastoral care to minimise the chance of someone getting overlooked and to respond to particular needs in a more coherent way. We've tried to represent this by using the following model (click here).

Pastoral Prayer Group : meets regularly to pray for anybody who asks for prayer and other situations and circumstances known to us. If you have a prayer request or want us to pray for you then speak to one of the team; Philip Deller, Edward Ibberson, Hermey Deller, Helen Brackenbury or Carole Martin. We believe passionately in the power of prayer and the love of God for people. We certainly cannot work miracles or hope to solve everybody’s problems but we know for certain that Jesus can and will answer prayer and we can testify to many situations where prayer has brought about a remarkable change for the better. The Prayer Team is willing to pray for you and your situation.

Homegroup Leaders, Junior Church Co-ordinator and Housegroups : small groups are an integral part of our church and everyone is encouraged to join one. Not only do the groups learn more of God and pray together, but also show genuine pastoral care, love and support. As each group shares life together, with its joys and challenges, highs and lows, the group supports each other, practically, emotionally and spiritually. The leaders of the different groups meet regularly with the ministers.

Pastoral Care Co-ordinator and Care Team : pastoral care is both practical and spiritual. Jo Waterhouse is our Pastoral Care Co-ordinator who helps us respond to more practical needs and requests. We have established a ‘pool of resources’, like an inventory of skills, talents and gifts, which members of the church have offered if there is a practical need (for example this includes a lift to hospital for an appointment, a home-cooked meal, or help with shopping to name three). If required the Care Team Co-ordinator will be involved to facilitate any arrangements.

A number of couples have agreed to be points of contact, together with Philip, Edward and Duncan, and are available to the whole church should you wish to approach them, to pray with, discuss or advise of a need or issue. The Care Team are Ken & Anne Allport, Bill & Maralyn Harvey, Mick & Kath Hutchings, Mark & Jo Waterhouse.
